SMOKE ALARM BASICS

Properly functioning smoke alarms are very important for home fire safety. We recommend smoke alarms be tested on a monthly basis. Smoke alarms should be present in every sleeping room, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home. It is best for the alarms to be interconnected, so that when one sounds they all will.

It is very important for everyone to have and practice a home escape plan in case of a fire. The vast majority of people will never experience the tragedy of a housefire. Therefore, it’s easy to just forget about the threat they pose or believe it will never happen to you. Unfortunately, that mindset is what leads to terrible outcomes in emergency situations.
