The 3rd Annual Public Safety Appreciation Dinner, organized by the Rotary Club of Jasper and Georgia Mountains Hospice, was held on Tuesday evening at Chattahoochee Technical College. Public safety employees throughout Pickens County were recognized for their sacrifice and service to others. During this event, departments throughout the county chose an Employee of the Year from their department to be recognized and receive an award. At the end, the event organizers chose one of the Employees of the Year to be awarded the Medal of Valor.
I am extremely pleased to announce that Sergeant Ray Peters was named the Employee of the Year for Bent Tree Public Safety and was awarded the Medal of Valor! Sergeant Peters has responded to many major emergency situations throughout 2023, including structure fires, and his performance has been outstanding. Sergeant Peters received his fire and medical certifications this year through training provided by or partnered with our department.
I am very proud of the entire Public Safety team we have assembled over the past two years. They all care a tremendous amount for this community and have chosen a field that requires personal sacrifices, sometimes quite considerable, for the sake of others.
