Public Safety

Living in the beautiful north Georgia mountains here in Bent Tree, we need to be aware of the inherent dangers that come with the privilege of our gorgeous surroundings. We are in a wooded environment, relatively far from many services that might be needed in the various emergency situations. While we have very experienced and dutiful employees in our Public Safety department, it is up to each of us individually to be prepared for the various types of emergencies. We need to ensure our Public Safety employees know your personal situations and requirements in the event of a general or individual emergency. They might need to relay that information to first responders from Pickens County, State and Federal assistance to an emergency. Know these key subjects to be properly prepared.

Please complete the form below with as much detail as possible to help our department properly address your speeding concerns. You can fill the form out electronically and email it to [email protected] or complete it by hand and turn it in at the Front Gate. Some fields on the form will not be applicable to all complaints.

SPEEDING COMPLAINT REPORT

During a medical emergency, it is very important for our first responders to be aware of vital medical information for the involved patient. This information cannot always be communicated verbally and is sometimes forgotten by family members during stressful conditions. That is why we ask all residents to complete the medical questionnaire below. It does not need to be returned to us. Instead, place the completed forms inside a large freezer bag or a large medication bottle and place it on your top freezer shelf. Our personnel are trained to look in that location during medical emergencies.

MEDICAL QUESTIONNAIRE

It is helpful for our personnel to have specific directions from each resident regarding who should be contacted if an emergency occurs and how to make that contact. Please ensure that the information provided to our department is accurate and kept current to help ensure our team is able to provide the support you need.  If you have any questions, contact us at 770-893-2628. You can download the Emergency Contact Form below or visit the Front Gate to get a copy.  Completed forms should be returned to the Front Gate or emailed to [email protected]

EMERGENCY CONTACT FORM

Bent Tree Safety & Emergency Management asks that any individual living inside Bent Tree who will need assistance in the event of an emergency evacuation complete an Emergency Evacuation Information form.  You can download the form or visit the Front Gate to get a copy.  Completed forms can be returned to the Front Gate or emailed to [email protected]

Pickens County has instituted the CODERED Emergency Notification System - an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows us to telephone all or targeted areas of the county in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action (such as a boil-water notice, missing child or evacuation notices). It then delivers our recorded message to a live person or an answering machine, making three attempts to connect to any number. Get Started Today.
E-911 Addressing Necessary for Emergency Calls

By Robie Arnold

Why do I need an E-911 address?

Primarily, to assist emergency services in responding to emergency calls. An E-911 address helps emergency services locate residents. A faster response time can make a significant difference in survival and degree of recovery. However, E-911 location addresses are also often required for phone service, building permits, driver’s license renewal, land titles, loans, mail delivery, insurance and for other purposes requiring a site location.

What is an E-911 address?

An E-911 address is a site location address. An E-911 address is assigned using a mileage measurement, accurate to 1/100 of a mile, to a driveway on a named road. A 911 standardized measuring system is used. Measurements start at the south or west end of a through road. Driveways on the left side of the road are given odd numbers and driveways on the right side of the road are given even numbers.

People placing emergency calls often have difficulty providing their addresses. Children, visitors, hearing or speech impaired callers, or callers in a life threatening situation may not be able to provide address information to dispatchers. E-911 automatically gives the dispatchers the address, allowing them to send the appropriate fire, medical, or law enforcement personnel, even if the caller is unable to communicate.

Please Post Your Address!

To assist emergency services, post your E-911 numbers at the entrance to your driveway. Numbers need to be visible from the road.

In April of 2018, a major wildfire broke out in the area of Shadowick Mountain Road as the result of a downed powerline.  Due to topography and weather conditions, the fire spread rapidly and burned approximately 65 acres of land.  Thankfully, no homes in Bent Tree were damaged during this terrible event.  Our hope is that a fire like this never happens again here, but it would be unwise to be ill-prepared if it does.  There are several simple, inexpensive actions that residents can take to protect their homes during a wildfire event.  You are not defenseless during these incidents.  Please take the time to watch the very educational video below.  Following the provided guidance could save your life and home.

Additional resources to help safeguard your home from wildfires can be found on the Firewise website at http://www.firewise.org.  And make sure to stay current on all fire prevention videos and information frequently added to the Public Safety News section near the top of this page.

Bent Tree is also a part of the Wildcat Community.   Wildcat Community, Inc. is a consortium of Big Canoe, Bent Tree, Burnt Mountain Estates, Monument Falls, Sassafras Mountain Estates, Tate Mountain Estates, Tomahawk Mountain Civic Assn, Windsong and Wintermont communities; established to promote awareness, improve preparedness and provide funding support for emergency management services to protect our mountain wildland environment.  Their goals are to:

  • Educate property owners to protect people, property and natural resources from the risk of wildland fire, other natural disasters and emergency services responses
  • Seek funding to enhance support for emergency management capabilities
  • Interface with all state, local and federal agencies for emergency management/public safety
